| Title | LUTON AIRPORT PENALTY FARE FOR VEHICLES AVOIDING THE DROP OFF FEE |
| Date | 20th August 2010 10:28am |
Luton Airport is to issue penalty fares of up to 80GBP for passengers arriving by car or taxi who try to avoid a drop-off fee introduced last summer.
In July 2009, the airport introduced a 1GBP fee for private cars and taxis dropping off passengers in a dedicated drop-off zone close to the terminal. Some travellers have tried to avoid the fee by dropping off passengers on the approach roads to the terminal.
However, from 23 August, the airport will issue a penalty charge of 80GBP to drivers of cars who stop their vehicles to drop off or pick up passengers on the approach roads, roundabout, or bus lane leading up to the terminal.
The penalty charge will be reduced to 40GBP if paid within 14 days.
Passengers can also park in the mid-term car park for up to one hour free of charge.
